The Monologue of Maria

Foundation.

A piece based on a conversation with an elderly lady who misses her late husband.

Her last words of:

You men don't last the journey. You work too hard.

In retrospect, I guess it's true.

So the question is:

Will you slow down or just be a beautiful memory that suddenly appears, right out of the blue?

The Monologue of Maria

(A lone voice whispers, looking lovingat a wedding photo)

I'll buy a white silk ribbon

Tonight,

My love

On our golden wedding anniversary

Lay it on your favourite glass dresser

Light one of your white perfumed candles

I still keep near and visualise all our cherished memories

Together

Within it

Then tie it

Into a sacred white bow

And gently kiss it and put it under one of your still scented, favourite blue pillows

That way

We'll sleep together

Every night

Especially tonight

Real close

Even though you're gone

Like we once used to do

As I remember, moments I still miss the most

For our love is still stronger than death.

And lasts beyond the grave

And it's how I

Now a lone survivor

Still waits with desire

Waiting

Praying for you

In one of God's

Repentance, grief filled Caves

To return in dreams of the Great In-Between

To help me continue with hope

With my incredible memories of you

Lighting my way with beloved beautiful sights

Like medieval gothic lights

Throughout this firefly-lit blackness

Especially when I'm alone at night

Thinking of you

While white perfumed candles light the way

With all the crazy things

We once used to do and say
