The Lonely Poet

An old Google Plus post.

---------

The Lonely Poet

If you saw me standing lonely in fields of gold

Would you still embrace me forever and stay with me to grow old

If you saw me in a diamond-filled pool

Would you ignore them all but embrace this lonely old fool

If you saw me sitting on a cash-filled settee

Would you just rush to pick up the money or just sit next to me

I am just testing the waters

My grandma
Old June always said
I aught too

I'm just a simple guy
I only have one or two lines

Do you want to wander down to the lush green meadows

And under that broken old oak tree

Read and compose some of life's greatest intimate moments
And make our own divine poetry

Would you then notice me
